SGT consist of solid and hollow clay masonry units that utilize a glazed ceramic surface which is fused to the body during the firing process. Virtually any color can be achieved with ceramic glazes. Each glazed surface provides a permanent finish that becomes an integral part of the clay masonry unit. The finish will never peel, discolor or fade. It resists stains, marks and chemical attacks and is highly resistant to impact and abrasion.
Ceramic glazed structural clay tile complies with ASTM Standards C126 and requires that the product meet minimum property values. The property requirements for the body include minimum compressive strength. The standard discusses performance requirements for interior use; however allows for exterior use. Properties of the ceramic glaze are also addressed in the ASTM standard minimum requirements for imperviousness, hardness, flame spread, fuel contribution and smoke density are provided in addition the glaze must resist fading and crazing. Glazed structural clay tile feature excellent strength and durability benefits for both interior or exterior applications.
